SBIC Code of Business Ethics and Conduct

Statement from the SBIC Board of Directors

This Code of Business Ethics and Conduct has been adopted by the Board of Directors of School Boards Insurance Company of Pennsylvania ("SBIC") on May 10, 2007. It applies to all directors and officers of SBIC as well as employees and management of PSBA Insurance Trust, School Claims Service, LLC and School Boards Service, LLC who perform duties for or on behalf of SBIC. Collectively, these entities will be called "Insurance Services". References within the Code to "you", "we", and "employees" are intended to include Insurance Services.

The purpose of the Code is to:

  • Prevent unethical or unlawful behavior;
  • Discover and stop any such behavior that may occur as soon as possible; and
  • Discipline those who violate the standards contained in the Code and related policies.

Our fundamental policy is that all business conducted by Insurance Services must comply with applicable laws and regulations and meet high ethical standards.

This Code outlines considerations applicable to situations most likely to be encountered by employees at one time or another as they conduct business

No Code could hope to specify exact responses to the numerous ethical issues that impact its employees every day in countless business situations. This Code tries to foster a working environment in which a Code such as this will always be hopelessly outdated by the simple example of committed employees who, in the course of their daily responsibilities, routinely and without fanfare exceed its expectation.

This Code outlines considerations applicable to situations most likely to be encountered by employees at one time or another as they conduct business. Inevitably, situations will arise where no written guidance is available. In such cases, the best course is to contact Management or Human Resources who have the responsibility to find the proper answers. All concerns deserve proper attention, no matter how small they may appear. If you suspect that fraud or business integrity issues are occurring, you should immediately contact the President of SBIC, or call our Third Party Fraud Hotline. Our policies forbid any form of retaliation for doing the right thing by fulfilling your obligations.
